Thursday, June 14th, 2012 Little Heroes Funds Meals Program in Mexico

The Little Heroes Foundation has given a grant to the Oaxaca Streetchildren Grassroots (OSG) organization for the support of their meals program. The mission of OSG is to “remove the barriers that hinder children from receiving and education.” Living in the second poorest state in Mexico, children in Oaxaca sleep on dirt floors, lack clean water, and are plagued with frequent illness. Unemployment due to a lack of education is as high as 80 percent in Oaxaca.

OSG seeks to help children receive an education but realizes that there are basic needs which must be met before a child can learn. If a child is constantly sick from unclean water, hungry because they have no food or lacks basic hygiene, it is hard for them to focus on learning. As a result of this understanding, OSG has begun providing clean water for bathing and drinking, nutritional meals and dental care for the 627 children attending the elementary, secondary and university level schools.

The Little Heroes grant will specifically fund the meals program, which feeds 627 students six days a week.
